FAO, provides 4.5 million % to Support Agriculture

The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) have prepared an agriculture support programme for 2019-2021 period worth Dollar 4.5 million, ATA reported on Monday. FAO's assistance aims to further strengthen the technical capacities of small farmers to increase the value of primary production and to promote diversification and increase of farm incomes. Pilot models for diversification, development of short-term food chains and rural tourism development opportunities will be implemented through this program. In addition, FAO will support technical assistance to the Agriculture Ministry for technical, operational and managerial capacity building by providing support during the drafting of National Programming Measures Programme, the implementation of e-agriculture programmes in order to increase access to information, knowledge, services counseling etc. Significant support will be the preparation of the EU-funded 2014-2020 Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development (IPARD II) as well as support for EU negotiations on Chapter 11. This programme focuses on two priority areas: increasing rural incomes and support for small farmers and family farms, with particular focus on rural women and young people and strengthen the legal and institutional framework with regard to agro-processing and climate change in order to increase competitiveness in the agricultural sector.
