Foreign remittances to Albania pick up in 2017

Foreign remittances to Albania increased to 635.7 million euro ($785.2 million) in 2017 from 614.5 million euro in 2016, according to central bank data. On a quarterly comparison basis, money sent by Albanian citizens living abroad increased to 172.1 million in the October-December period of 2017 from 165.6 million in period July-September, the central bank said in its Q4 2017 current account report. According to data from the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations, migrants from Albania totalled 1.12 million in 2015. Albania has a population of 2.87 million.
