Finance Minister: “Gambling shops outside cities after January 1st”. President: “New law reduces gambling taxes”

The law amends for the tax on profits, approved this June by the Albanian Parliament, has caused conflicts between political parties and the highest institutions. The President decided to return the law with the argument that it reduces taxes for gambling shop owners. The President says that the tax with the new law applies for their annual net revenues, not total turnover. According to the president, this means that they will pay less. The Minister of Finances says that the law increases the tax burden for companies that were excluded from the standard definition and the 15% taxation. “They were taxed with 10%. Now they will pay 15%”, Ahmetaj said. The Minister of Finances also says that after January 1st, gambling shops will only be allowed outside cities.
