Albanian investors apply to build 3 small HPPs in Gjirokastra, Korca regions

Albania's energy ministry said it has received three applications from local investors for building permits for small hydro power plants (HPP) in the southern regions of Gjirokastra and Korca. The capacity of each small HPP will not exceed 2 MW, according to a list of applications posted on the website of the energy ministry last week. Local company Afrimi K intends to build a small HPP in a tributary of Drino river in Gjirokastra, the joint venture Gjeokonsult & Co and Engineering-Systems intend to build a small HPP in another tributary of Drino river, whereas Jova Company wants to build a HPP in a tributary of Shkumbin river in Korca region. Albania produces 98% of its electricity from HPPs, most of it from three power plants along the Drin river.
